Dogs that are regularly engaged in play, socialization, and training are balanced, curious, calmer, more obedient, and happier dogs. Play-based training is the most enjoyable way to train your dog and leads to the fastest results while improving the bond between you and your furry friend.

How We Train
Training your dog with experts at Rob’s Dogs is a fun and rewarding experience for both of you. It’s essential to keep training sessions short and to use positive reinforcement. It helps your dog learn to respond to a command and increases their motivation to continue doing so.
Training your dog in different environments and under varying levels of distraction is also essential. It’s much easier to teach your dog to sit at home than it is to do so while walking on a busy street.
Many training methods advocate out-and-out dominance of the dog, but we’re proud to offer a more humane approach to teaching obedience and behavior modification. We utilize a method called “shaping,” which involves luring, marking, and rewarding success to encourage your dog to perform the desired behavior. It’s a simple and effective process that can be used in all aspects of your relationship with your dog.
Basic Obedience
Whether you have a new puppy or an adult rescue dog, obedience training can help you and your dog bond. According to experts, all dogs should know seven basic commands: sit, down, stay, come, heel, and off (No or Leave It).
Dog training in Phoenix, can begin at eight weeks old, allowing ample class enrollment time. Training classes help teach puppies and young dogs essential manners and skills, including walking nicely on a leash and being comfortable around strangers.
The most accessible command to train is usually sit, followed by stay and come when called. You can start by standing your dog in a distraction-free area, then slowly walking away from them and calling their name while rewarding them with treats if they remain in the same spot until you permit them to move. This is an essential safety skill for dogs to learn to avoid running off or getting lost.
Advanced Obedience
After basic obedience is mastered, the next level of training involves proofing commands in various environments and situations to ensure that they work reliably. It includes increasing the duration of stays and recalls and adding distance to those exercises.
One of the most important elements of advanced training is the ability of a dog to obey commands while off-leash. It increases safety and allows you to take your dog on walks and other adventures without worrying about them running away or chasing after something they see.
To train this, we use a long line (sometimes called a check cord) that you can attach to your dog’s collar while they are off-leash. We slowly work them up to this, only taking it off when we are 100% confident they will listen and return to us! This is a critical step in becoming an off-leash rock star!
Socialization
Whether you have a puppy, a new rescue dog, or an established adult, it’s vital for pets to be socialized and to learn how to interact with people and other animals. When this is done well, it can create positive behaviors in your pet and help you form a happy, harmonious relationship. This is the basis for all of our training programs and is one of the critical components to creating a well-mannered companion.
